An event that affects your need for health care, insurance, or other benefits. Generally, qualifying events are:
* Marriage or divorce.
* Birth or adoption of a child.
* Death of a spouse or dependent.
* Significant change in the health care coverage of the employee or the employee’s spouse attributable to the spouse’s employment. Generally, commencement or termination of the spouse’s employment.
* The taking of an unpaid leave of absence by you or your spouse.
* Change from part-time employment to full-time employment or the reverse by you or your spouse.
*You must apply for any changes in coverage within 30 days of the date of the family status change. Such changes in coverage must be on account of or consistent with the reason for the family status change. A change in coverage is consistent with a family status change only if it is necessary or appropriate as the result of the family status change.
